The exterior of the building reflects a strict set of University guidelines which require all new facilities to utilize features identifiable with the Collegiate Gothic style but reinterprets these elements into a composition reflective of its time. The building ornamentation is simplified and the building skin is carefully revealed at select locations acknowledging its primary purpose as iconographic and non-loadbearing. The heart of the facility is an exterior courtyard which unites both the north and south wings of the large complex. The courtyard carefully merges with the site by using the natural change in grade to create an artificial declivity.
